Nico & Vinz
What could be the result of blending Norwegian, Ghanaian, and Ivorian cultures? Tune your televisions to Eurochannel and discover the answer in this Euromusic special presenting the duo that showcases afrobeats from Scandinavia: Nico & Vinz.
Nico & Vinz broke into the music scene in 2011 and have captivated audiences ever since. Their music is an eclectic mix of different influences: pop with equal parts soul, blues and hip-hop. Add to this their amazing voices and you will understand why they were invited to perform at the Nobel Prize Gala in Oslo in 2013.
This duo grew up exposed to the different music influences of their parents and constant trips to the West Coast of Africa. And it is not that their parents were white volunteers in Africa but that their families come from there - Nico’s father is from Ivory Coast and Vince’s parents are immigrants from Ghana.
Their debut album The Magic Soup and the Bittersweet Faces – which showcases 21st-century hip hop released under the stage name of Envy - was received with remarkable admiration by the Norwegian audience. But their worldwide success came after the release of their second production, Black Star Elephant, and its debut single “Am I Wrong,” in 2013.
Now, with this Euromusic special, we invite you to sing along to the tunes of this Afro-Norwegian duo that have turned into the country’s biggest pop exports.
