The Seventh Eurochannel Short Films Tour - Program 6 – When I Grow Up

The Eurochannel Short Films Tour is back for its seventh edition, with a special programming theme: the European family.

The Eurochannel Short Films Tour has been a successful Eurochannel trademark for the last seven years. A unique event, the tour invites viewers to follow talented directors on an exciting exploration of Europe through short films: with the directors as guides, viewers discover fascinating cultures through the eyes of a filmmaker. Almost every European country and region is represented in this edition of the Eurochannel Short Films Tour - each of whose film is broadcast in its original language and subtitled in English - which is an example of the program’s creativity and dynamism. 


Leaving Home (Uit Huis, 2013)

When Father decides Richard is old enough to leave his parental home, he sends him out into the world. Richard keeps returning home, every time in a more bizarre way. Somehow he seems attached to the house. When an unfortunate alteration in life takes place, Richard is forced to stand on his own feet.

The Hunger Artist (Hungerkonstnaren, 2014)

An odd take on how feelings and sentiments resist the passage of time. Daniel’s mother approaches strangers in shopping malls and coaxes them to buy lunch for her. A sense of embarrassment has followed him for a good part of his life; Daniel remembers his mom's strange efforts when he was a child and how he was tormented and anxious because of her oddball behavior. As Daniel learns to see the world from his mother's perspective, he has to make a choice whether to stop her or try to accept her as she is.

The story of a father and his young son placed in an unusual situation. They find themselves alone during Christmas Eve and have to celebrate without their wife and mother. Both try to rediscover hope and the path to each other. This night is a revelation for their spirit and mind - a healing of souls and finding of hope in being a family.

Heavyweight (Sværvægter, 2014)

Liam, a single father, has a hard time dealing with his 6-year-old son’s, Oliver’s, idealized view of his job. Oliver loves everything that has to do with cops and heroes and therefore believes that Liam is a police officer punishing villains. However, hero status might be stretching the truth when in fact you are a parking attendant where threats from disgruntled drivers are a part of your everyday life. Liam therefore circumvents the truth and tries to avoid conversation when Oliver asks him if he can tag along with him on the job someday. Influenced by Oliver’s ideology, Liam instead tries to use his job to do something heroic, but the whole situation takes an unexpected turn.
