Three Popular Russian TV Series to Watch

Commemorating the airing of the Russian mini-series event, Einstein: The Theory of Love, about the forbidden, yet disputed, love affair between the scientist and a secret Russian agent; Eurochannel has selected three TV series from Russia that nobody should miss.

Interns

Produced by NTV-Kino, airing in Russia since March 29, 2010, Interns is a sitcom about the everyday life of young doctors. The group includes four young inexperienced medical interns who constantly get into troublesome situations, their mentor Andrey Bykov, and the hospital's staff. Interns became one of the highest-rated shows in Russian history with peak audience reaching 26.9% of Russians aged 14-44 years. As one of the country’s most successful series, it has been adapted to different markets, including Lithuanian television station tv3, which to date has aired 150 episodes of the series, titled Rezidenta. The series has also been adapted in China.

Kitchen

Created by Vitaliy Shliappo and Vasily Kutsenko, this is another Russian sitcom with as a treat for those who have fascination for cuisine and the life of chefs. Kitchen focuses on the comedic events that unfold in a fictional restaurant in Moscow called "Claude Monet". Since its 5th season, the comedic events are unfold on the Hotel's restaurant. The show became one of the most expensive TV series in Russia, with a budget of US$200,000 per episode (about $8 million per season) and was premiered on October 22, 2012. Currently, Kitchen is in its 6th season.

Fizruk

Created by Sergey and Fedor Stukov, Fizruk is a comedy with thriller sparks. The series follows a retired mobster that tries to get back in business by making friends with the son of his former boss. To do so, he becomes the sports teacher at the kid's school. Fizruk had a phenomenal success in 2013-2014 when it was premiered and is defined by critics as a production that “unifies the whole Russia in every episode.”
